No 'do overs' but we can, with God's help, work on our doing!

Grandsons, Alexander Benjamin and Brady Darrell.
Hello and welcome to Thursday, December 30, 2010. Time is getting away from us as we get ready to get ready to say goodbye to another year. One of the favorite quotes from the Disney cartoon, 'Phineas and Ferb' heard around here a lot is this one: "Whatcha doin?" I am a slow learner and only put that together after having the 1,000th episode playing in the background. But when you think about it, it's not such a bad question as it relates to where we are and where we have been over the past nearly 12 months. God lives outside of time but He gave us time and a finite existence, therefore, we have to take seriously whenever He reminds us to number our days and to live in a way pleasing to Him because the days are getting away from us, and they are evil. (See Psalm 90:12 and Ephesians 5:16) I elect myself as president of the Should've, Could've, Would've Club. Yeah. It would be great to get some of those opportunities back where we were presented with the potential to make a difference in someone's life. However, that's like what Solomon wrote an entire book about, Ecclesiastes, where he was honestly addressing the emptiness of pursuing the so called good life without recognition of God, and he likened it to chasing the wind. No. We can't get a do over but we can commit ourselves to a 'do' as we find ourselves in that same situation in 2011. To do that we need some outside help. Obviously, if we could do it all on our own we wouldn't ever have regrets but we do have some, therefore, we need God and His Spirit infusing us with a sensitivity to His appointments and then a good dose of His power to help us to get up and do what He would have us to do. That will give us all something to work on in the upcoming year! Agreed? I hear a few of those amens out there and add one hearty one myself: Amen.          ......More later.
