On his desk in the Oval Office, President Reagan kept a small plaque with the words: “There is no limit to what a man can do or where he can go if he does not mind who gets the credit.” He lived that in everything he did. ~ The Reagan Foundation

Good morning and welcome to Monday, November 30, 2020. While I realize 2020 has mostly gone by like one of those films of a distance runner in slow motion, we open up today, and somehow and someway, we find ourselves only 24 sleeps before Christmas Day.  I guess you saw where the stock market went through the roof into record-setting territory as it anticipated and calculated the impact of the availability of an effective COVID vaccine. As I heard this being breathlessly reported by various news media outlets, only one or two even mentioned the influence of President Donald J. Trump on getting a vaccine in what can only be called an unprecedented turnaround schedule. No thank you for him. According to the Mayo Clinic, vaccine development is on average measured in years, with some taking 10 or more years. President Trump seized this opportunity to make changes in the development protocols, the rules, and other factors to speed this work. Obviously, the folks who are in the business of betting the farm on the future, as in investments, see it as a preeminently significant accomplishment. Okay. My reality button just switched on and the thought came to me how this will end up being Joe Biden's and the Democrat's great achievement. That would be sad, but, may I say to you, that, my friend, is a real possibility. The good news is that you and I know the truth. Right? Well, you do now!

I will say this about that: Getting ready to get ready to be Santa has not been easy this year. I continue to saturate myself with Christmas shows and music, but, the spark has been very elusive this year. Believe me, I need that spark. I'm sure part of it has to do with these venues we have booked and their commitment to providing as safe an environment as possible. We will not know how safe it is until we experience first hand being there. Our first event is one we have done for 10 years. It typically involves more than 500 children and their families, therefore, it will be interesting to see how they try to get photos without personal contact. Mrs. Claus recommended to them how we could have them sit in front of us and we could stand behind them. They reported they are working on doing something like that. Oh well, if nothing else it will be a planned three-hour learning experience. Some have expressed concern over Santa wearing a mask for the photos. The mask would pretty much define this year, but, we are hoping not to wear one if the conditions can be arranged. Meanwhile, we get new reports daily, literally, of more people we know who are dealing with Conronavirus related challenges. Interestingly enough, in some of the most restrictive states in our nation, the officials hammering on the people to conform, well, several of the more notables have been caught on video not following their own draconian edicts. As my boys used to say, "Hey dad, is this one of those do as I say, not as I do kind of things?"

What a year! We did the facetime deal with our granddaughter Tiffany and she had our newest great grand Ava for us to ooh and ah over. I well remember when Tiffany was born and also when Madelyn Joy, her first, and our first great grand was born ten years ago. We were there! Not there with little Ava. Not this year. Just mom and dad. No one else allowed. I saw a photo on Facebook of a young couple showing off their brand new baby to the grandparents. The grandparents were outside looking through the window. The new dad put this caption up: "Who would have ever thought? This is my family!" I'll not cast any more stones at those trying to protect us all, but, I am aware there are reports from respected sources that seem to contradict many of the measures that have become part of our conventional practice. Those of us who are believers that attempt to honor God's directives are put into an awkward position. We are to submit to the governing authorities, but, we are not to embrace edicts that are intended to steer us away from our faith. I've mentioned often how we have forces in our governmental structure that want to destroy and remake the family values we hold to be sacred. I read the other day where those advocating an aggressive leftist agenda are lobbying President-elect Biden to immediately withdraw certifications and accreditations of all Christian based educational systems including colleges that do not fully embrace their views. This is why it is always true that elections have consequences, and, we have only begun to see what things will be like over the next four years. But, don't forget, God can even use a Pharoah to free His people and in the process, gain great honor and glory for Himself. Amen. ...... More later.

"To catch the real meaning of the “spirit of Christmas,” we need only drop the last syllable, and it becomes the 'Spirit of Christ.'" ― Thomas S. Monson

Hello and welcome to the day after here at the ole blogger ranch. It is Friday, November 27, 2020, and, having enjoyed a most wonderful day of feasting and fellowship, we now turn the page. We actually ended up with 14 for our Thanksgiving Day gathering. If we count our tree and its branches, that is roughly half of our clan, but, we so much enjoyed our time together. As you can see, we did do our eating meeting in our backyard. I quickly add that everyone did do their best to observe the 'rules' of protection that we all have become all too familiar with. Thanks to everyone who was able to be with us. Thanks to our Chris for smoking the turkey and preparing the ham. Thanks to the wife of my youth who worked so hard, not just on Thursday, but the prior days leading up to our time together so that it would be special for everyone. And, more than anything, we thank God for providing the means and the opportunity for us to gather. The Bible says every good gift comes down from above and we saw the reality of that in our time together. May God be praised. Amen.

And, just like that, we turned the page and now it is on with our Christmas observance. While we are only doing limited appearances as Santa and Mrs. Claus, we do start next week with events on Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and the following Monday. That's like going from zero to 100 without a warm-up. The photo is of our home and it was taken from the street. The shadow above the front door is from the nativity scene we have spotlighted. We didn't plan that but I happen to like it. That nativity scene is a great reminder of why we have Christmas. He is, as the slogan says, The Reason for The Season! Sometimes, we lose that with all the hullabaloo going on around us. Okay. Have yourself a wonderful weekend and I will work on treating these discombobulated symptoms that tend to plague my writing from time to time. Enjoy. Be blessed, and don't forget to remember to thank God. Amen. ....More later.

Have a great day of thankfulness for all God has done, is doing, and, will do going forward. We have His word on it! Amen.

My Facebook Posting from 2015: Greetings to one and all on this special Thanksgiving Day celebration. I am well aware of the historical context for this recognition in our nation and I'm very much clued into its meaning. However, this year I've done my best over the past number of days to express my thankfulness to God for all the spiritual blessings He has provided to me. I've tried to concentrate on what it means to have a thanks-living mentality. I know how easy it is to become fixated in our prayer life on the food, family, home, job, and health realities that we all must deal with. Yet, as one born again through the power of the Living Lord of the universe we have so much more to be thankful for. That spiritual aspect of all that He has provided becomes the foundation for a truly thankful heart. As for the day itself, we are so looking forward to those who are coming to be with us. As is our practice, we will pause to once again express thankfulness as a family for all that God has done for us, for giving us the nation we have and the resources He has allowed us to enjoy, and most importantly for us being who we are in Christ. May all our thanks come from hearts that overflow with gratitude for His great love, mercy, and grace. Have a great day and may God help us all to be genuinely thankful.

Remembering to be thankful for those who have touched my life. Amen.

This is the one I had up this morning. It reminds me of the one Paw Paw had in his den.

Good morning and welcome. It's Thanksgiving Day Eve, Wednesday, November 25, 2020, and, I bid you a warm greeting along with a prayer for us all. Today is my sister, Frances' birthday. Sadly, she is confined to a nursing facility, and due to COVID, very isolated at this time. She hits 77 today. Her birthday reminds me of a lot of memories over these many years of sojourn here on the planet. I was up a little after 4 a.m. this morning. I begin thinking about so many who have touched my life over the years. I put up the burning fireplace from YouTube and called up the song, "When I get to where I'm going" on my phone. I first heard that song by Brad Paisley and Dolly Parton at the memorial service for Frances' son Andy, back in January of 2008. It is a nostalgic tune where heaven is envisioned along with meeting up with those who have gone on to their reward. Since hearing it for the first time, I've listened to it and watched the accompanying video dozens of times. Thanksgiving is a good time to remember and dwell on those who have been a blessing over the years. That's what I was doing early on this drizzly morning. Thinking about so many who have gone on, well, that always brings tears but many of them prompt tears of joy and anticipation as I know I will see them again. You can easily find that song by searching for it on YouTube. Here are the lyrics.

When I Get to Where I'm Going

When I get where I'm going
On the far side of the sky
The first thing that I'm gonna do
Is spread my wings and fly
I'm gonna land beside a lion
And run my fingers through his mane
Or I might find out what it's like
To ride a drop of rain
Yeah, when I get where I'm going
There'll be only happy tears
I will shed the sins and struggles
I have carried all these years
And I'll leave my heart wide open
I will love and have no fear
Yeah, when I get where I'm going
Don't cry for me down here
I'm gonna walk with my grandaddy
And he'll match me step for step
And I'll tell him how I missed him
Every minute since he left
And then I'll hug his neck
Yeah, when I get where I'm going
There'll be only happy tears
I will shed the sins and struggles
I have carried all these years
And I'll leave my heart wide open
I will love and have no fear
Yeah, when I get where I'm going
Don't cry for me down here
So much pain and so much darkness
In this world we stumble through
All these questions I can't answer
So much work to do
But when I get where I'm going
And I see my Maker's face
I'll stand forever in the light
Of His amazing grace

Yeah when I get where I'm going
Oh when I get where I'm going
There'll be only happy tears
Hallelujah
I will love and have no fear
When I get where I'm going
Yeah, when I get where I'm going

Song: "Thank You Lord for Your Blessings on Me."

Good morning and welcome to my 'running late' edition for today, Tuesday, November 24, 2020.  Back in the day when I worked in downtown Houston, we had two metropolitan newspapers, the early paper was the Houston Post and the afternoon was the Houston Chronicle. When someone happened to come in late, someone would invariably ask if they brought the Chronicle with them to work. I didn't bring a newspaper with me but I was busy working on a plumbing project with our eldest son here at our house. Our Chris is our go-to fix-it man and he is off from work this week and we had this corroded pipe that connected to our hot water heater, therefore, he came over and swapped it out for a new connecting pipe. We are heads-down working on getting ready to get ready for our Thanksgiving gathering. I heard a news report that said 1 out of 3 families surveyed said they saw a family getting together as being something worth the risk even in the midst of the COVID situation. We aren't taking the threat lightly and we will be doing what we can to reduce the exposure risks, but, we still so look forward to those who plan to be with us, somewhere around 15 total including us. I hope I haven't shared a flashback of a flashback, but, anything is possible. Thanks to those who checked to see if I was still upright this morning. I appreciate it and as always, I need all the help I can get.

The Basis for True Thankfulness!

I bid you greetings on a very foggy morning with very low visibility around our area. However, we can with clarity anticipate this as Thanksgiving week and I am thankful for the opportunity to use this means of communication to express my thankfulness on this Monday, November 23, 2009. Our local family is planning a huge get together for Thursday and I am an easy mark when it comes to being sentimental about this time of year. There are so many memories that flood my soul, and yes, many of them are so very precious to me. This week I want to occupy this space with some of my thoughts on the subject of having a thankful heart. Today I want to start with the basis of true thankfulness and that relates to me knowing God and Him knowing me. Sounds simple enough but to know God as Father and for Him to know me as His very own child brings forth praise and thanksgiving because there is no privilege or prize greater than this. Therefore, I am thankful that I recognize God as being Who He has revealed Himself to be, I have responded to Him by accepting the payment made for my sins by His Son, My Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, and I live and breathe with His abiding presence as He through His Holy Spirit lives within me.

I love the story about the Pilgrims and the first Thanksgiving Day celebration here in our country as well as the next fellow, and I will get to many other blessings as this week progresses, but for today I want to bask in the privilege of being a child of God. The Good News is that all who respond to God's provision through His Son can be saved, can be made whole, and can be thankful for God's grace, mercy, and His great love. Some of my favorite verses that come to mind when I think about what it means to know God and be known by Him are found in Jeremiah. In the 9th Chapter we read these words: 23) Thus says the LORD: "Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, Let not the mighty man glory in his might, Nor let the rich man glory in his riches; 24) But let him who glories glory in this, That he understands and knows Me, That I am the LORD, exercising lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth. For in these I delight,” says the LORD.

The Prophet puts forth the foundation for true thankfulness and I join Jeremiah in reminding us all that to know and recognize God in a personal way transcends all that we might experience in this life. Therefore, I start this week where we all will be thinking about so many thoughts and ideas about thanksgiving with an encouragement that we envelop them all with God Himself as the basis of our thankful hearts. The writer of Hebrews said those who would please God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. (Read Chapter 11.) May we all focus in on our diligence this week in our seeking to honor Him with hearts overflowing with praise, worship, adoration, and thankfulness. When our thankfulness reflects the reality of Him in our lives then the rest of the details will find their rightful place. May God help each of us to honor Him by observing Him in His rightful first place in all things including our thankfulness! Amen. .....More later.

Happy Birthday Stefani!

Good morning and welcome back to our Thanksgiving Week edition beginning today, Monday, November 23, 2020. I start off by recognizing the birthday of our granddaughter Stefani. We typically try to gather for a birthday celebration but out of an abundance of caution, we didn't this time. I understand her parents made it a very special day for her. We thank God for her and her precious child, Bella, our great grand, and we ask Him to continue to bless. Amen. Our love, MiMi and Poppy

Over the river and through the woods......

Good Monday morning and welcome to a short week for most as we anticipate a special time with family as a coming attraction this week. We are so looking forward to it and that is what I am thinking about today, on this 21st of November, 2011. That old Bob Hope melody comes to mind, 'Thanks for the memories." I am so very thankful for my many memories that are made fresh at this time of year. I will be the first to admit that strolling down the lane of our family will bring tears because of so many who have gone on before us, however, that doesn't mean we can't enjoy spending some time with them by allowing our yesterday's to help prepare us for our Thanksgiving celebration. I've heard of folks who can remember their very first Christmas or Thanksgiving or other special events in their lives. That would take most of us back to when we were still in diapers, therefore, I'm not too envious of that particular ability. But I do know that my memories of Thanksgiving are a blending of the 65 that God has allowed me to participate in with number 66 coming this week. That blending is somewhat blurred because they really did take on a distinct similarity. You know? Traditions. Special foods that have been handed down for generations. Now the excitement and anticipation of seeing loved ones and the joy and laughter experienced, well, that ends up being very personal for each of us as we thank God for those He has placed in our lives along the way. Our table didn't look like the one in the famous Rockwell painting. We didn't wear suits on Thanksgiving Day. However, the look and feel of that image is oh so familiar and that's because on Thanksgiving Day we celebrate God's provision of family and that provides the common connection that spans our years of remembrance.

Food. I've written about our family's fascination with it before. We were descended from legendary cooks. People who took their cooking very seriously. Why? Since for us, it was the moms and grandmothers, they obviously cared deeply about what they put on the table. In our family that was a daily focus but on a special day like Thanksgiving Day, it was stepped up to the highest level they could muster. I actually saw a note that a mom in her 60's posted the other day that said their microwave oven had gone out and they weren't sure they could even remember any of the basics about food preparation. Oh, what heresy! Sorry. Don't get me wrong, I have no problems with modern conveniences but please, oh please, don't mess with the skills required to continue family food traditions. I'm superbly blessed in this arena. I thank God that we still have my mom around who at 87 is still preparing meals from scratch many times each week. My child bride took her mom's excellent cooking style and married it to our family traditions and she became, very early on, one who could hang right there with the best of them. And, while she doesn't do as much of it as she once did when the kids were still at home, she still knows how, and she still does put on a spread that Granny Mac would be proud of. Don't I think all this emphasis on food is a little over the top? Sure it is. But, it's my recollection of how it was over the years for me, and food was a HUGE part of our times together, and Lord willing, we will continue those traditions this coming Thursday. And I do add a hearty Amen to that!

I'm not knocking those who order up their Thanksgiving meal from the restaurant. I'm not saying those who use the drive-through on this special day are somehow less than me. That can be their tradition or no doubt in some cases necessity dictates how things might be done. My boasting, hopefully, done in a humble manner, is because of how special it is to enjoy the whole range of thoughts, feelings, and experiences that flood one's soul during these special holidays. How serious is all of that? Pretty serious since I'm sitting here drooling over the thought of enjoying once again some cornbread dressing which has helped define our celebrations over the years. And, we do our best to hand down these same traditions. We do have wonderful additions to our family over the years and they have brought their special dishes to the table, so to speak. So, bottom line, we are blessed with the memories of the past and we are blessed with the anticipation of another time of us all being together. At the same time, we are aware that pain, hurt, loneliness, and countless difficulties do not take any holidays. They surround the lives of many today and far too many, because of circumstances, will face the holiday with a much different perspective. Maybe looking at it from a hospital room or having to deal with the loss of a loved one at this very time of the year. We do not overlook the reality and we pray God's provision of peace and comfort into the hearts of all who are dealing with such in their lives. Now we move on as we get ready to get ready and that is also a part of the blessings God has allowed us to enjoy. Until next time, don't forget to make a list because you will need all of those special items for Thursday's feast. May God bless each one. Amen.     ...More later.

"Feeling gratitude and not expressing it is like wrapping a present and not giving it." - William Arthur Ward

Good morning to one and all. It is Friday, November 20, 2020. I had a little issue getting the laptop to come up this morning but I discovered it was an input power issue, as in, not being plugged in snugly. That snugly word may not sound very technical but it becomes very important when the appliance on the other end runs completely down and needs to be charged. Bentley wanted to share a few words this morning. "Yeah, that's me in the photo. Sitting in 'the man's' lap surveying my domain. It has been an interesting journey over these soon to be two years since I came to this neck of the woods. (Sorry about the slang but I use what I have become accustomed to hearing around here.) At any rate, I have really worked hard to get these folks trained and effective in their providing me an enjoyable home. It took a while but we finally got the program working where 'the man' responds properly when I get hold of a grass burr in one of my paws. Before, I limped around until it either became bearable or embedded really deep. Now I lay down and stick my paw in the air. (You know, like calling time out for an injured player.) The man eventually stops looking at his phone long enough to notice my distress and comes to my aid. He removes the painful intruder, I nod a thank you, and we are off and running again. It took me a while to get this one going but I'm so glad because we have plenty of those grass burrs hanging out around these parts. Y'all have yourselves a really great day and I will try to get back to you one day soon."

Here is another flashback to prepare for Thanksgiving. Have a great Saturday and Lord's Day Sunday. Amen

Happy Thanksgiving - 2013

Happy Thanksgiving and welcome here on this Thursday, November 28, 2013. Here's something I believe will facilitate and enhance your Thanksgiving observance. Take 2 to 3 minutes and read the Thanksgiving Proclamation as issued by our first President. It is a powerful affirmation of our founding principles and how our early leaders looked to Almighty God. Very powerful indeed. Amen.  ....More later.

[New York, 3 October 1789]

By the President of the United States of America, a Proclamation.

Whereas it is the duty of all Nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits, and humbly to implore his protection and favor-- and whereas both Houses of Congress have by their joint Committee requested me to recommend to the People of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many signal favors of Almighty God especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness.

Now therefore I do recommend and assign Thursday the 26th day of November next to be devoted by the People of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being, who is the beneficent Author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be-- That we may then all unite in rendering unto him our sincere and humble thanks--for his kind care and protection of the People of this Country previous to their becoming a Nation--for the signal and manifold mercies, and the favorable interpositions of his Providence which we experienced in the course and conclusion of the late war--for the great degree of tranquility, union, and plenty, which we have since enjoyed--for the peaceable and rational manner, in which we have been enabled to establish constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national One now lately instituted--for the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed; and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge; and in general for all the great and various favors which he hath been pleased to confer upon us.

And also that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations and beseech him to pardon our national and other transgressions-- to enable us all, whether in public or private stations, to perform our several and relative duties properly and punctually--to render our national government a blessing to all the people, by constantly being a Government of wise, just, and constitutional laws, discreetly and faithfully executed and obeyed--to protect and guide all Sovereigns and Nations (especially such as have shewn kindness unto us) and to bless them with good government, peace, and concord--To promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue, and the encrease of science among them and us--and generally to grant unto all Mankind such a degree of temporal prosperity as he alone knows to be best.

Given under my hand at the City of New York the third day of October in the year of our Lord 1789.

William Shakespeare: “O Lord that lends me life, lend me a heart replete with thankfulness.”

While it doesn't really feel much like the holiday season, nonetheless, the calendar reports we are right dab on top of the start-up of Thanksgiving and Christmas. Hello and welcome to Thursday's edition and this one gets tagged with November 19, 2020. I've been watching a number of sermons to prepare myself to be reminded of what it means to have a thankful heart and an attitude of gratitude. I've watched Dr. Tony Evans, Dr. Charles Stanley, Pastor Allistair Begg, Pastor Matt Chandler, and a few others. Great preachers and great sermons. It has helped to remind me of the reasons we have to live with a spirit of thanksgiving, however, that holiday excitement and anticipation, well, during these times, that's not been forthcoming. We see quite a number of our friends who have already decorated for the Christmas season. Some have even put up their outdoor decorations. They too are seeking to not only change the subject during this pandemic but, they are also seeking to find that feeling associated with the holiday spirit that is so special to us all.

With Thanksgiving Day coming up next week, I went back and looked at my first blog written on the subject from 2007. It reflects that feeling I've talked about today.

Everything We Hoped For!

Our family gathering yesterday was nothing short of being a memorable blessing. God is good all the time, all the time, God is good! We certainly experienced His provision yesterday as we all gathered to celebrate family, food, and fellowship. I know as we write about things we might be inclined to embellish and make it better than it really is, but yesterday was one where we needed no editing because everyone was in good spirits and we had a most wonderful day! Here's a blast from the past when we were visiting family over in Louisiana many years ago. I'm holding our youngest son Rodney who has a boy, our Brady or Bray-Bray, who's about a year younger than he was at the time this photo was made.

Yesterday the kids were good and while they were rowdy at times, no one banged heads or got out of sorts. We enjoyed talking, snacking, talking, and then talking some more. The Packers were playing the Lions in the background but the love and appreciation was the main topic as we celebrated all that God has given to us as people blessed to live in this great nation. When it came time for our prayer I had to fight back the tears as I thought upon the blessings God had granted to us even at that very time in being able to meet together in harmony as a family and to have the feast that was set before us.

Yesterday was one of those days that will always stand out as a great source of our being thankful and it was also a time for us to remember the many 'yesterdays' from our past. Throughout the day my wife and I made contact with most of our extended families to wish them a happy Thanksgiving Day. A big thank you goes out to our eldest son, Chris, and his wife Sherrie, for opening their home and being such gracious hosts. Previously, we had more or less established a tradition of meeting in our youngest son's home for this great time together but since it was our Stef's birthday, we switched locations. New location, same great time of being together. We are blessed.

For those who think all this kind of stuff is corny and mostly nostalgic foolishness, well, you would have had to have been there to see how absurd these kinds of thoughts are. What a treasure and what a Great God we know and serve. Again, God is good all the time, all the time, God is good! Yes, we are so very thankful. Amen. ....More later.

"If plan A doesn't work, the alphabet has 25 more letters — 204 if you're in Japan." — Claire Cook

Good morning and welcome to another day where we all seem to be waiting for the other shoe to drop. I'm talking about the resurgence of the Coronavirus pandemic that seems to be intent on messing with our holidays this year. It is Wednesday, November 18, 2020, and people are now checking to see just how long they can keep that huge turkey in the freezer just in case they have to cancel their family gathering. To say 2020 has been a really different kind of year goes without saying. Even our dialogue has changed. Our children are daily into using new terminology, like 'pandemic', 'social distancing', 'distance learning', and, all kinds of slang referring to the mask-wearing requirement. Online platforms have hurried to add search terms and other information directly connected to the virus itself. Gamechanger. No doubt. In our little sphere, it appears the virus is taking on a second wave in terms of its spread. I base this on reading new positive confirmations among our Facebook friends and reports from our Church family. I saw where some of the medical folks are saying even after we get a vaccine there will continue to be a need to wear the mask and stay away from each other. Really? As if we have not become isolated enough. Right?

Some have made the point how the government has dealt with the pandemic gave us all some glimpses into how socialism works. Government control. Intrusion. Shortages. Long lines. Less freedom. A spirit of hopelessness. Just to name a few. Sadly, as the recent election proves, we have folks who actually want to move in this direction. They proclaim, not to worry because in our land it will be something called democratic socialism. Call it whatever they will, it all ends up with the government becoming the decider-in-chief for all aspects of our daily lives. While many think those who see this as a great threat to the America we have loved and known, the other side dismisses the concerns on the basis of giving everyone a better life. At 74 years and counting, I am not as concerned about myself personally, but, I am very saddened when thinking about the potential long-term impacts on my grandchildren and their kids. It could easily end up being like the proverbial frog in the water on the burner. The heat doesn't immediately hurt the frog. In fact, it might even feel pleasant at first. Lured into complacency, the frog is too lethargic to do anything when the water begins to boil. Overly dramatic and pessimistic? I sure hope I am being just that.

I know that all sounds rather ominous, but, we are not without hope or resources. I close with some truths that will help us all as we make our way through these choppy waters. Amen. ....More later.

Isaiah 41:10

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

Psalm 46:1

“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.”

Philippians 4:6-7

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

1 John 4:18

“There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The One who fears is not made perfect in love.”

Psalm 94:19

“When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought joy to my soul.”

Luke 12:22-26

“Do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear. Life is more than food, and the body more than clothes. Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds! Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life? Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?”

Psalm 27:1

“The Lord is my light and my salvation – whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life – of whom shall I be afraid?”

Revelation 1:17

“Then He placed His right hand on me and said: Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last.”

President Eisenhower opened his inaugural address with a short prayer in which he asked God for wisdom and divine blessing, saying, Give us, we pray, the power to discern clearly right from wrong and allow all our words and actions to be governed thereby and by the laws of this land.

Good morning and welcome. It is Tuesday, November 17, 2020, and, I do hope today's edition thrown up onto your electronic doorstep finds you and yours doing well. Mr. Bentley and I ventured out earlier this morning and the weather was quite pleasant. We were doing 43 degrees here and the dewpoint is at 37, therefore, it was almost like some fall air had sneaked into our neighborhood. I tried but couldn't see my breath. Here's what one local news outlet had to say about this 'seeing your breath': "There's not an exact temperature at which condensation will occur but usually when the temperature is below 45 degrees Fahrenheit, you can usually see your breath. This isn't always the case as other factors, like the amount of moisture in the air, pressure, and temperature." I huffed and I puffed and it was almost like it was nearly there, but, just a smidgen off, therefore, I assume we have the other factors at work here. What's that you say? Is that how I want to spend my time trying to see my breath on a cool morning? Well, it does give me something to work on while I await Mr. Bentley's prolonged sniffing operation where he is trying to determine who came into our area since last night. Maybe you can come up with something better.

We had a small family leadership meeting via Zoom last Sunday afternoon. The meeting was called to make a final determination about our Thanksgiving gathering. While we hear every single day about more folks we know who are confirmed to have the Coronavirus, we decided as a family, to proceed with our annual gathering. This means the wife and I will be hosting our clan on Thanksgiving Day. We do know there are risks associated, but, in the end, we all agreed we needed to proceed and to do so with us all having an understanding of the situation that we are in. The Zoom deal worked really well. We all could see and hear each other without any problems. I did read over in Louisiana, a young boy, aged 9, was suspended from school because his teacher noticed a BB gun in the room of his home where he was taking his online lesson. The principal concurred, saying it was the same as bringing a gun to school. I did a doubletake when I read this news blurb. My first thought was to pinch myself and to wonder if we are living in a bad episode of The Twilight Zone. Fortunately, but also sad to say, the Louisiana state legislature has come to this young man's rescue and passed a law making such nonsense illegal. This also reminded me of how some school districts attempted to ban parents from monitoring the online classes on their children. These sound really way out there, but, I predict when the new administration takes over, we haven't seen anything yet!

What can you and I or anyone else do at a time like this? We can pray. Duh. We all knew that already. That's good, but, we still have the doing of it if we are to see God work. Here are some interesting things said about prayer. ~ "To be a Christian without prayer is no more possible than to be alive without breathing." – Martin Luther ~ "True prayer is neither a mere mental exercise nor a vocal performance. It is far deeper than that – it is a spiritual transaction with the Creator of Heaven and Earth." – Charles Spurgeon ~ "Prayer should not be regarded as a duty which must be performed, but rather as a privilege to be enjoyed, a rare delight that is always revealing some new beauty." – E.M. Bounds ~ "It is possible to move men, through God, by prayer alone." – Hudson Taylor  ~ "To get nations back on their feet, we must first get down on our knees." – Billy Graham ~ "Prayer is not monologue, but dialogue; God’s voice is its most essential part. Listening to God’s voice is the secret of the assurance that He will listen to mine." – Andrew Murray ~ And, finally, I'll end with this revelatory truth: "Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you" (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18) Amen. ......More later.

Great Grand visitation day! San Antonio. We finally get our hands on Ava Romona.

Long day for us old folks. Drove over to San Antonio to see for the first time, in person, our newest great-grand, Ava. Then drove back home. She is so precious. It was hard to leave. We thank God for a wonderful day.

This morning I thanked God for and prayed for our eleven grandchildren, the four great-grands born into our clan, along with the four great-grands who became a part of our family. As I held our newest, Ava, in my arms I thought I could mark this off, as they say here in Texas, my Buc ee's List. May God bless them all. Amen.
