Cold, Slow Start!

Trying to get a manufacturing process back up and humming at capacity after being shutdown for two weeks is quite a challenge. The equipment is ready. The schedule is ready. The priorities are set. But the folks, at least some of them, seem to be in a fog as if they are still unwrapping gifts on Christmas day. I know it is not easy to hit the ground running and the very cold weather these first few days back has not helped. However, given our current opportunities and the uncertainties that are being batted around for the upcoming year, we do need to quickly get ourselves focused and moving.
That reminds me of a recent Yogism I heard about forecasting. Yogi reportedly said, "I don't like to mess around with forecasting especially if it's about the future." I think many of us feel this way especially with high gas prices redefining the pie and it being an election year. The Iowa caucuses were last night and on the Republican side former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee pretty much trounced the second place Mitt Romney, former governor of Massachusetts. The polls indicated that six out of ten republicans called themselves born again or evangelical, therefore, this gave the former Baptist minister Huckabee a huge advantage over Romney who is Mormon. I'm not keen on Huckabee after researching his record in Arkansas and I well remember the last Southern Baptist we had in the White House. His name was Jimmy Carter. Bill Clinton at one time called himself a Baptist but I wouldn't even go there.

On the Democratic side Barak Obama won big with John Edwards coming in second. This left the so called Clinton machine somewhat in shambles. It appears the democrats benefited by a huge turn out of first time caucus goers many of which who were very young and they voted for change which has been the theme of Obama's campaign. The reports I saw didn't cite any percentages for religious identity among the democratic voters, therefore, this in and of itself gives one of the main differences in the two parties being represented.

Personally, I believe the democrats are pulling for Governor Huckabee to be their opponent this fall. They see him as the most easily beatable. They would love to get their hands on his sermons from his ten plus years as a Pastor. As for the democratic nominee, I don't know who it will be and really don't see much difference except for Hillary who would usher in an updated version of what we saw before in her husband's presidency. In the end, I fear most of all that God will allow our country to do some reaping of what we have planted, that being the seeds of our rejection of Him and His ways, by giving us the leader we deserve. I pray that He will show mercy and extend His grace in whatever the outcome He allows to come to pass.

As for the here and now, we don't know what will happen and we can't really wait to find out. We have to live out our own version of 60 Minutes every hour of the day, and in so doing this will be where we have the most opportunity to make a difference and to prepare us for whatever comes our way. I choose to believe that God is always the answer, period, end of story, and that He will be with us because nothing, including an uncertain economic future or a pending election, can separate us from His love for us through our Lord Jesus Christ! Amen, hallelujah, praise His Holy Name. .....More later.
