Slowing down in the fast lane of life!

Hello once again. I bring you greetings and a prayer of good will on this wonderfully pleasant morning on this Friday, November 7, 2008. You've probably noticed that I at times, (far too often), do my own version of word and grammar mangling. What you may not know is that there are times when I recognize something is off just a tad but keep it anyway because it more or less says it like I want it said. This will drive any God fearing English teacher to tears but in this blog it is pretty much what you see is what you get. My preacher brother-in-law is here with us helping repair our damaged home. He has lived in and around large metropolitan areas before but perhaps far enough away from the action to not see it as often as we do. He commented last night as we were playing dodge ball with our vehicles out on the freeway just how desperately hurried everyone seems to be. Welcome to getting from point A to point B while anticipating C, D, and E. I actually do think that folks become caught up in a vortex of busyness to the extent they are running out of control without really knowing why. This is not to say they don't have somewhere to be but is that somewhere truly necessary and are we all missing out on those things that really matter as we spend our days trying to lap the field on the interstate?

He and I went into the city to attend a revival service at the African American Church where Bro. Kim pastors. It was a wonderful time of praise, worship, truth preaching, praying, singing, and fellowship. The fellow in to preach is an older gentleman who has an infectious personality that beams forth a message that Jesus is His Lord and he is excited to let others know about it. His name is Bro. Clark from Memphis, Tennessee. I've known Bro. Clark and his lovely wife for many years. They are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary on this visit and he literally preached up a storm last night. His message was about the cost that was paid to purchase our salvation and the cost that must be paid if we are to follow in the steps of Him who gave His life for us. I learned some things. I was convicted by some of what he presented. In the end, we left knowing we had met with God. That's the purpose of our coming together in having what we typically call 'Church'. To know that God is present and He through the presentation of truth has moved, worked, and accomplished His purpose is what we desire in our time of meeting together. Then it was back out to the realtime version of hot wheels. It was as if we had taken a brief time out when we exited the freeway and had now returned to the program still in progress. But, it had been a good night and we both were encouraged and refreshed from having made the journey.

This led to another episode of what you've heard me call a 'good tired'. That's the kind of weariness that leads to a sweet slumber and believe me, I did do some slumbering, at least for five hours. But now here we are with a brand new day and a brand new opportunity to do something with it. Coming to each day with a sense of purpose will go a long way in seeing something accomplished. And, if that purpose is focused on making certain God and His honor and glory is at the heart of what we are all about, then those things accomplished will make a difference in ways we might not even expect or understand, and they could even have an impact that lasts for time and eternity. Setting our hearts and minds on things above instead of chasing the lure of the treadmill where folks just peddle all day long, will see God work, first in our life, and then in the lives of others as we interact with them. It has been quite a busy last several days. We've got a huge work day planned tomorrow at our damaged place. But we are also anticipating our meeting together with God's people scheduled for the brand new Sunday to start off our brand new week. Never become so busy that you fail to spend time with God and to meet with Him in the special way He has chosen to arrive when His people come together. Until next week, may the good Lord bless and keep each of you and yours, and I will do my best, with His help, to show up on Monday with something to say! Amen. ....More later.
