Odds and ends, this and that, a little bit of something else, here and there.

It's November 2, 2010 and I bid you a good Tuesday morning and welcome to the front porch pundit where we can always look back on what has happened and get it pretty well figured out. That 20-20 hindsight vision may make for good conversation but it isn't that great for plotting a course for the future. I suppose the most ugly thing to come out of today's electoral madness is the idea being promoted that we, ordinary Americans, those of us who get up each day and go out and try to make a living for our families, that we somehow are not intelligent or sharp enough to see how really wonderful President Obama has been since taking office. For some reason the folks in this administration along with their mainstream media support team cannot fathom how there might be people in this nation who are diametrically opposed to a liberal, government dominated, socialistic approach to governing. One of the things they continue to emphasize is how that folks with more education tend to be more supportive of President Obama and his policies. This reflects what? That institutions of higher learning are typically tilted towards a liberal ideology in the extreme. Is that really a surprise? God fearing folks who live based on what they believe to be principles of liberty and integrity are considered to be less intelligent because they will not drink the Kool-Aid being served up by this administration. This is the huge disconnect. And, my way of seeing it tells me that the lemmings may not be those who have given of their blood, sweat, and tears to make this, with God's help, the greatest nation on earth. I've listened to much of the so-called intelligent assessments of our direction and future under this administration and it goes against much of what I believe in, therefore, I have to join in with others who are guided by our understanding of God's Word: "When the righteous increase, the people rejoice, But when a wicked man rules, people groan." (Proverbs 29:2)

How in the world are you doing anyway? Sick of all the political ads running on television yet? There are some real doozies out there and many of them are downright ugly, regardless of the person or party they are attacking. I do visit a number of fact checking websites and there are plenty of misleading ads coming from all parties. I suppose one of the favorites is to take a quotation and use it coming directly from the opponent's mouth but do so while totally distorting the context of those comments. It is the gotcha realm of how we operate today. Typically, many of them end up being like the proverbial question: "Have you stopped beating your wife?" Bottom line: They work or they wouldn't be spending billions on them, yeah, that would be a "b". I suppose we should be glad that employment in the political ad business is doing quite well, at least until tomorrow. So what else to we have to think about besides politics? I'm just glad that October had 31 days and I don't have to mess with my watch because it magically became November 1st without me having to mess with it. The older I get the more I'm glad not to have to mess with things. I suppose I need one of those that has the computer in it with a 100 year calendar that will take care of this situation for my great great grandchildren. Speaking of which, on Saturday evening I actually got to lay hands on our little great grand bundle of Madelyn Joy. She is a remarkable child and we had such a wonderful time being with our eldest son and his entire entourage. It doesn't take much to make my day but when she lets me hold her and we have a good time, that's enough to last until the next time we meet. Now that's a way to escape the clutches of reality for a brief time out!

Speaking of brief time outs, I'm going to take a few days off beginning Wednesday. My wife is also off and we plan to take care of some elderly matters like flu and pneumonia shots, etc., and a number of  other miscellaneous things on our 'to do' list. The main item on our agenda: RELAX. She does not believe that word is one that I know anything about but I am committed to do my best to try to think about thinking about doing just that. Of course one person's relaxation might be another person's work. She likes to sleep late. I might do the same but me sleeping late is 6 a.m. and her's maybe 10 a.m. She likes to go places and do things. I like to be more reclusive in my pursuit of recharging my batteries. How do we make sense of these differences? We try to do a little of all of the above. Maybe her going somewhere will include a visit to a historical site or something on that order that might interest me. Or, maybe her going somewhere will include me not going. That's usually a harder one to work out but it is another way we tend to compromise. It's supposed to be a little cooler, therefore, maybe we can get some walking in, or sit out on the driveway before the sun comes up and sip a little Community. But that would pretty much nullify her sleeping late and she needs a jacket when it gets lower than 75, and she doesn't drink coffee, and she likes game shows and I don't, but I digress. But we always figure out something and I'm looking forward to being with her for five days. I am trying to decide whether I will be doing a blog each day. It might help us all for me to take a short break but since I enjoy doing them, I'm still working on that decision. Don't get too excited if I have not cluttered up your inbox each morning.  I do hope we all have something to celebrate as the final numbers come in from today's elections. Always remember that our trust is in the Lord our God, not in any politician. May God bless us all! Amen.                 .......More later.
