There's no need for me to say I told you so!

It’s Monday and we continue to keep on keeping on as we embrace this October 6, 2008. You can call me narrow minded. You can call me unsophisticated or any other tags that take away from my standing as one who really has a grasp on international affairs. But look at the facts. Poison in baby formula made in China is currently ravaging families in their own land. This is only the beginning as these same hurtful chemicals are being discovered in a broad range of food products made in China. These products are literally consumed throughout the world. I’ve been on my soapbox before about this and refuse to get off of it. This is not only a serious threat to the welfare and health of millions; it is a prime example of what happens whenever price only drives our system. Not content with killing off people’s pets, here’s some information on the potential for harm from the current threat: “Consumption of melamine may lead to reproductive damage, bladder or kidney stones, bladder cancer, acute kidney failure and death.” That last one will get you every time.

We had two engineers out to go over our damaged house to be sure no structural problems exist. One was from Toledo, Ohio, and he shared how his family had a long history of working in the plants and factories in and around Toledo. Those plants and factories are now located in China leaving their community devastated. No problem, right? Big problem, at least that’s the way I see it. This young engineer had been told about how it used to be but I took the opportunity to give him my thoughts on the subject as well. He seemed stunned as I shared with him the foolishness involved in destroying our industrial capacity in order to fund those building weapons that threaten our very existence. This is what happens whenever you remove any moral component from decisions regarding trade and commerce. End result: children sick and dying, potential for more illnesses, and more and more missiles paid for by us being pointed at us.

No one could make up this stuff. You can call yourself a ‘free trader’ or any other kind of name but buying cheap goods and services that harm your offspring does not appear to be very wise. The wisdom of this world is exactly what put the Savior on the cross. It made good sense to keep the peace and after all, it was only the death of one rebel. Hey, it’s only a few babies here and there and we must continue our love affair with the “ALWAYS LOW PRICES”! Sorry if this comes across as cynicism but America needs a wake up call. Dr. Charles Stanley said last week that if Americans end up being driven to their knees because of the economic crisis, it will be a worthwhile difficulty as people turn back to the God they have forsaken. One commentator said that many believers operate their daily lives as practical atheists. This means they proclaim to know God but operate as if He does not exist. This is not good for an individual, a community, or a nation. God help us is all I can think of to say. He really is our only hope. Seek Him today! Amen. ….More later.
