“What do dogs do on their day off? Can’t lie around – that’s their job.” – George Carlin (Comedian, 1937-2008)

Looks are deceiving. It doesn't work. Period!

Good morning and welcome. It is Thursday, November 12, 2020, and we continue to deal with the stuff that shows up on our radar screen each day. We recently went through somewhat of a remodel of our upstairs bathroom. It mostly was sprucing it up but it did include new flooring, new lighting, paint, and a new molded countertop. The countertop arrived and the technician said it would be no problem to install it. We offered him the layout of the old top so that he could be certain everything would line up as it should. He said he didn't need the old layout. He installed the countertop and it looked good. He left. We later noticed he had put the two holes for the sinks in the wrong place and we couldn't connect the plumbing or put in the drawers because they now hit the sink. We called the coordinator lady at Home Depot. She first gave me all their standard gobbly-gook about how we are responsible for this, that, and the other. I sent her photos. She called back and said that when you install something new there are always adjustments that have to be made. I told her again, "If the technician had used the pattern offered to him to cut the holes there would be no need for any adjustments whatsoever." She said she would send the photos to the contractor and would get back to me. They have determined they will have to remake the countertop and reinstall it. That's what we said. They do not have the material on hand. They will order it rush and hopefully be ready to reinstall by the end of next week. Her final comment really got to me, "If you will, please call me next Tuesday and check on the progress. We are really busy here." I think I said thanks, but, are you kidding?

Mr. Bentley arrives at his new home, January 2019.

As best we can calculate from the time Sir Bentley Barksalot, Esq., arrived here in our home, and because we were told he was 9 weeks old, we came up with today as his actual date of birth. It's an educated guess but he is, as of November 12, 2020, now two years old. Everyone knows the story. We were never pet people. We are now. We never allowed pets inside our home. We do now. We would have never thought we needed to spend considerable funds on a pet. We do that on a regular basis now. Him coming to live with us has been, as they like to say in popular slang, a gamechanger for us. Just this week, the wife accidentally closed him up in one of the upstairs rooms and we couldn't find him anywhere. We were calling and yes, I was beginning to be a little frantic. When we finally located him, he looked up with that 'I would have come but I couldn't get out' look. One common denominator is his ability to make us laugh. He can really do things that are funny. And, he shows love and devotion to each of us. I've heard the boys tell how they exchanged texts when I announced we had purchased a dog, "Anyone know what's going on with dad these days? He is kidding. Right?" I wasn't kidding and Bentley has made this new venture very interesting. He has been good for us all.

It is strange that we are having to discuss among our family what to do about our annual Thanksgiving Day gathering. Many families are canceling the big gathering and substituting other ways of contacting each other during this important holiday. We are talking with our sons and their wives regarding a way forward for us. We all want to be together. We all want to see each other. That is a given. Yet, we also need to do what is best for our family. I have read the CDC recommendations and they give a picture of exercising great caution in group gatherings, especially as the number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 continues to escalate. Right now we are praying and seeking the Lord's provision. One thing is sure. We are not alone in trying to decide the right thing to do. May God provide is my prayer. Amen. ....More later.
