Memorial Day 2011 - We Remember

Welcome to Monday, May 30, 2011, where it is officially Memorial Day. This is a day set aside like no other. It is specifically designated to honor those who have died as a result of wearing the military uniform of our nation. Our freedoms, even the one I am exercising by sending out this note, cost something.  That something has to do with the blood spilled during the many wars and conflicts that have defined our existence over the past 235 plus years. Blood. That's right. The life's blood of our brave men and women who laid down their individual pursuits and took up arms in the cause of liberty. Even as we smell that barbecue wafting through our neighborhoods, we should be reminded that getting up each day and doing pretty much what we determine to do is a privilege that comes with a way of life that others have died to preserve, and are dying to preserve today. Therefore, I pause today to offer a prayer of thanksgiving to God for all those who have given their lives so that we might be free. We all have names that come to mind. Two of my buddies from high school paid the ultimate price during the Vietnam War. Today, I remember Floyd Williams and Roland Prewitt. Today I ask that God would bless their families, and may our nation, individually and collectively, show our gratitude for all who paid the ultimate price in the cause of freedom. Amen and Amen.                 ......More later.
