A Mother's Day to Remember!

Welcome to Monday. Yesterday was, of course, the day set aside to honor moms. I thought the Yahoo list of the five worst Mother’s Day gifts were pretty funny. Number One: Kitchen appliances. Not the gift of choice for Mother's Day. No bread makers. No Cuisinarts or blenders. Even for kitchenistas. Even in cool retro colors, don't do it. Especially when you're replacing something that's broken -- that doesn't even count as a gift. Exception: A coffee maker. Mama needs her caffeine. Number Two: Lotions. Yes, we know you think it's sweet to buy us lotions because women like to doll up and smell purdy with soft, luscious glowing skin. But what we think when we open this gift is, "I know I don't shower every day, but are you trying to tell me something?" Exception: A slightly overpriced but exquisite lotion that a mom only purchases on special occasions. Number Three: Little House on the Prairie-inspired pajamas. Caroline Ingalls is the only mom who ever will make them look sexy. Exception: Grandma. Number Four: House-cleaning gear. Even moms will admit the Dyson DC07 vacuum is one hot little number. But for a $600 price tag, we'd rather have the cash. We're in a recession, people. Drop that money into a savings account. Exception: Mom asks for it. And even then, we're not even sure it's cool. Number Five: Sick Husband. Oh I know. You can't buy a cold. But you know what I'm talking about. The only thing worse than a kid being sick on Mother's Day is a husband being sick on Mother's Day. You and your man colds. Mom should high-tail it 'outta dodge. But she won't. Because she's Mom. Exception: Never.

What a day it was for us! We did our Bible teaching on a lesson from the Old Testament regarding the influence of a Godly mother compared to the legacy of an evil mom. (2 Chronicles, Chapters 17-25) After that we left our Church services to be able to witness two of our granddaughters being baptized as a testimony to their faith in Christ. Last year on Mother’s Day their mom was baptized! Are we blessed or what? May God bless the daughters of our youngest son Rodney and his wife Mitzi, Kyleigh and Lexie as they continue their walk as heaven bound believers. They also are the parents of our little Bray Bray. After that service my wife and I met up with our other two sons and their wives and children for lunch, and one of our daughters-in-law was also celebrating her birthday. Happy birthday to our Mindi, wife of Jimmy Sr., and mother to our Jimmy Jr., twins, Alesha and Amanda, and Alexander Benjamin. We were also able to honor our eldest son Chris' wife, Sherrie, joined by their children, Tiffany and her friend J.C., Brittany, and Stefani.

Family. Family. Family. What a great way to commemorate moms and what they mean to us. My mom was visiting my younger brother on Saturday and I did get to spend some time with her early Sunday morning to wish her a good day and express my appreciation for all she has meant to me throughout my life. My wife carries on that tradition of excellence found in mothers who give of themselves for the good of their families. She was our designated queen for the day and our three daughters-in-law were princesses. What a blessing to be part of a family who has so many model moms in our heritage!

My wife’s mom was a special lady and her testimony lives on as we honor her memory. My wife’s dad’s mom was also a wonderful funny lady and she always brought a smile to her world. Of course my Granny Mac, my mom’s mother, was a one of a kind matriarch and we carry her imprint in our day by day living. There’s hardly a good way to describe what my mom has done in terms of how her 84 plus years have unfolded. However, because of her doing what she did, the best way she knew how, with God’s help, we are who we are today, doing what we do, and able to give God thanks for all these moms because every good thing comes from Him. May God bless these moms who are special to us! Amen. .........More later.
