Yes. God does hear our prayers. That’s what I’m consciously contemplating in my cogitation on this Thursday, March 5, 2009. Our dear Brother Milton did come to our home on Tuesday and yesterday we were able to see him make his way home to Florida on a commercial air flight. Who would have ever believed this man would be in our home again, much less being able to go back to his home place? That’s how close he was to death on many different occasions since that fateful physical collapse on December 6, 2008. But eighty-eight days later I came in from work and there he was, all stretched out in a recliner not far from where he had been sitting just before leaving for the ER back in December. Was this the right time for him to be discharged? Was this the best plan given his serious medical condition? We can’t know all the answers to these questions and we do know this trip was a tremendous challenge for him physically and mentally. However, the doctors thought this would be best long term. The family agreed. A dear brother in Christ who has a very cryptic way of summing things up told me this on Sunday, “Now you know that God has been with Brother Milton all along this journey. He’s going to continue to be with him and He will take care of him one way or the other because He’s still the same, before, during, and after.” Thanks Brother Jim for helping remind us of where our confidence is placed!
He made the trip okay and was greatly looking forward to sleeping in his own bed. This has been a bittersweet farewell for us all. My wife has carried an unimaginable load for these many months. We’ve dealt with having our home nearly destroyed and rebuilt. We’ve dealt with this day and night touch-and-go health crisis of our dear brother. I can’t even count the number of times we were told he might not make it. At the same time, we’ve had all the stress of dealing with insurance matters and in trying to accommodate those in and out to visit and support Brother Milton. We’ve had our own family issues to deal with while trying to keep our jobs going, our lives moving forward, and in maintaining some sense of normalcy in an upside down world. She’s exhausted physically and emotionally. However, I heard her tell Brother Milton that this entire episode had caused her to lean more and depend more on the Lord than ever before. That makes so much sense because He is the source of our strength. Join us in praying that God will bless this move as Brother Milton will now have more of his immediate family near him at all times, his grandchildren in and out often, and his Church family there to help in his ongoing care. I told him that I still believe that he will preach again one day. It may be a while but I believe he will. Come to think about it he has never really stopped preaching as his testimony throughout this ordeal has heralded a tremendous sermon to those near and far away. May God bless in all these things and may He be glorified in receiving all praise and honor from the magnificent work He has accomplished in the outcomes seen and unseen over these past several months! Amen. ….More later.
