"I am blessed: I have a warm bed to sleep in, a bathroom only steps away, running water and plumbing, food in the refrigerator, and the comforts of a home." ~ copied

Good morning. Welcome to another day here at the ole blogger ranch. Today's roundup finds itself up and at em on this Tuesday, September 30, 2025.  We, or, at the least the wife, has been doing her best to pour on the water trying to hang on to the green grass for as long as we can. We have been blessed with spotty showers throughout this past summer and it has kept everything looking pretty good. Some summers come along and all the kings men and all the kings horses could not preserve the turf because of old fashioned drought and hot weather. We've been at this house address since the summer of 1984, forty-one years, and given the fact that it was built in the early 1970's, well, it like us might just be humming the gospel tune, 'This Ole House'. It was written by Stuart Hamblin, put out in 1954, and it describes the last words of an old man living in an old house that has fallen into such disrepair that it is no longer structurally sound. The man tells of how the house "once knew his children" and "once knew his wife," but that he was not going to need it any longer, nor did he have time to repair the house's numerous flaws because he is dying and going to heaven very soon ("ready to meet the saints"). That's a description found in Wikipedia and we don't think we are quite there yet but we can see some of our experience with our house in that song. The song itself was a great success and was recorded by many different people. Just for the fun of it here are the lyrics. Go ahead. Sing it. I know many of you know how it goes. Enjoy!

[Verse 1]
This old house once knew my children
This old house once knew my wife
This old house was home and comfort
As we fought the storms of life
This old house once rang with laughter
This old house heard many shouts
Now she trembles in the darkness
When the lightnin' walks about

[Chorus]
Ain’t gonna need this house no longer
Ain't gonna need this house no more
Ain't got time to fix the shingles
Ain’t got time to fix the floor
Ain't got time to oil the hinges
Nor to mend the window-pane
Ain't gonna need this house no longer
I'm gettin' ready to meet the saints

[Verse 2]
This old house is a-gettin' shaky
This old house is a-gettin' old
This old house lets in the rain
This old house lets in the cold
Oh my knees are gettin' chilly
But I feel no fear or pain
’Cause I see an angel peekin’
Through a broken window-pane
[Chorus]
Ain't gonna need this house no longer
Ain’t gonna need this house no more
Ain't got time to fix the shingles
Ain't got time to fix the floor
Ain't got time to oil the hinges
Nor to mend the window-pane
Ain’t gonna need this house no longer
I'm gettin' ready to meet the saints

[Verse 3]
Now this old house is afraid of thunder
This old house is afraid of storms
This old house just groans and trembles
When the night wind flings its arms
This old house is a-gettin' feeble
This old house is a-needin' paint
Just like me, it's tuckered out
But I'm gettin' ready to meet the saints

[Chorus]
Ain't gonna need this house no longer
Ain't gonna need this house no more
Ain't got time to fix the shingles
Ain't got time to fix the floor
Ain't got time to oil the hinges
Nor to mend the window-pane
Ain't gonna need this house no longer
I'm gettin' ready to meet the saints

[Verse 4]
Now my old hound dog lies asleepin'
He don't know I'm gonna leave
Else he'd wake up by the fireplace
And he'd sit there and howl and grieve
But my huntin' days are over
Ain't gonna hunt the 'coon no more
Gabriel done brought in my chariot
When the wind blew down the door

[Chorus]
Ain't gonna need this house no longer
Ain't gonna need this house no more
Ain't got time to fix the shingles
Ain't got time to fix the floor
Ain't got time to oil the hinges
Nor to mend the window-pane
Ain't gonna need this house no longer
I'm gettin' ready to meet the saints

Okay. That should do it for today. Have a great one and know that God is aware of everything involving His own. He is aware and He cares. May He add His blessings. Amen
