Take a deep breath; exhale, because we have made it all the way to Thursday, November 6, 2008. Most people have adjusted to the move from daylight savings back to standard time. It is interesting to see the first light of the day creeping in at around 6 a.m. here in these parts. I’m sure the local critters have observed the changed behavior patterns of the folks that drive those deadly machines with lights zeroing in on them. Lately they seem to be lined up on the roads peeking out to see the early morning parade passing by. The other night when I was with four of my grandchildren we encountered a large male Whitetail deer, maybe a six point, on one of the side streets. He must have been nibbling on some mushrooms or something because he more or less stood there as we slowed down staring and daring us to do something. He finally tired of the game and slowly ambled off into the nearby brush.
Speaking of nibbling on mushrooms, the other day I went out to where two of our young workers were cleaning a large metal building preparing it for painting. They were using paint thinner in a mostly enclosed area. They are typically very respectful of me when I come around but on this particular day they called out to me and said, “Helllllllllloooooooo, want you commmmmmme and join us?” Then I noticed they were working on the ceiling but were in no need of a ladder. Not really, but they did seem to be very much enjoying their labors. I mentioned it to the shop foreman and he said the main question was whether they were getting the job done, not if they were using a ladder or not. Now you see why Ole Roy and I are such good buddies!
This has been an eventful week for our country and typically, as most weeks go, for each of us individually. While we talk about how that we trust God and know that He is not surprised by any and all things that occur, it’s not so easy to operate based on this truth without any fretting or anxiousness. Very often I have to remind myself that we can carry everything to Him in prayer, everything! The big stuff, the medium, and the little ones as well. Based on our identity in Christ, our Father invites us to come with confidence into His throne room that we might make known our petitions and receive His help in our time of need. (Hebrews 4:16) I received an email yesterday from a lady in our Church with the following things that we are still sure of before, during, and after the 2008 election. Here’s what she sent: “TOP 10 PREDICTIONS - NO MATTER WHO WINS THE ELECTION…1. THE BIBLE WILL STILL HAVE ALL THE ANSWERS. 2. PRAYER WILL STILL WORK. 3. THE HOLY SPIRIT WILL STILL MOVE. 4. GOD WILL STILL INHABIT THE PRAISES OF HIS PEOPLE. 5.THERE WILL STILL BE GOD-ANOINTED PREACHING. 6. THERE WILL STILL BE SINGING OF PRAISE TO GOD. 7. GOD WILL STILL POUR OUT BLESSINGS UPON HIS PEOPLE. 8.THERE WILL STILL BE ROOM AT THE CROSS.9. JESUS WILL STILL LOVE YOU. 10. JESUS WILL STILL SAVE THE LOST WHEN THEY COME TO HIM. AND --- GOD APPROVES OF THIS MESSAGE!!!! ISN'T IT GREAT TO KNOW WHO IS REALLY IN CHARGE. AMEN.” Pretty good list for us to read, take in, and mediate upon because it is all true and it is good for whatever ails us! Go ahead, you have my permission to have a most wonderful day! ....More later.
